About Rashida Clarke

My passion for real estate started while I was working in community organizing, planning and zoning. I loved the job but I've always had a strong sense of entrepreneurship and a desire to control my time and income. Not long after starting that job I purchased a small condo and I began going to local real estate investor meetings. However, my income and time were so limited I couldn't figure out how to generate additional income to get started with investing. In 2010 I was part of a reduction in force as a result I was moved into a new position that I hated. I did double the work and was split between two departments, the managers couldn't agree on exactly what I should be spending most of my time on and it created a rift within me and between some of the team members. By 2013 I'd gotten the courage leave the job and set out on my own so I started my real estate licensing classes. Officially became licensed in 2014. But the glamor of entrepreneurship quickly wore off as I struggled to find my way in real estate. In the early part of my career I had a baby, was a caregiver for my mom and husband during illnesses and had to reignite my passion for the business. Working as a [introverted] solo agent -the climb up has been rough but I'm making my way. My colleague and I created a company called the House of Hustle and within it a course for rookie agents, part-time and struggling agents called Keys to Thrive. Our goal is to give other agents the tips and tools we wished we had. And to help them find their place/niche faster within the field. Maybe real estate sales isn't what they should focus on but something else. We want people to Thrive in the industry overall. The real estate industry needs more people of color in all fields. And I've had to find my stride as well. I'm not one of those super glam Facebook/instagram agents that is always posing for photos and videos in 5 inch heels. I value knowledge and specifically generational wealth building among people of color. My goal is to help as many people as I can start the groundwork and build their empire.
