About Dan Toler

I was born in Chicago in 1986. Now, you're probably asking why you should care where and when I was born, but I just happen to have been born during the Bears' Superbowl win. No joke; my mom went into labor at a Superbowl party. It is to this coincidence of time and place that I attribute my lifelong love of football. This is my one and only superstition.

After spending most of my childhood being homeschooled in the Philly suburbs, I went to the University of Notre Dame. I'd been a theater kid growing up, but it took until late in college to really find my niche. A buddy and I started our dream of a rock band, and smoked absurd amounts of weed in the process.

After college, I got into IT, but lost my job in 2010 due to outsourcing. Unemployed, I moved to my old buddy's place in New York to make the dream of a band a reality. We worked at it for several years, and I paid the bills by working retail.

Eventually, people grew up and got responsibilities, and the band fell apart. I quit retail to write full time, and started a history podcast, Relevant History, which takes up most of my spare time. I spend the rest of that time playing strategy games and, of course, watching football.
