About Mike Fleming

I've looked for beginning running podcasts since my first run 4yrs ago and I couldn’t find one. So after 2years of trial and error, and discussions with my wife and friends I decided to create the running for beginners podcast to help inform new runners.

If you're a new runner, or an older runner, or an overweight runner that wants to hear from similarly situated runners, not from a sub 3hr marathoner or a collegiate coach then you're in the right place. We're not experts, we just have 4years of actual real world experience to share. We are of differing ages and genders and weights and physical fitness levels.

My name is Mike Fleming. I'm currently 57yo retired from the military and live with my wife and fitness partner who is also retired from the military. All of our adult lives we've been relatively active and fit; we go to the gym almost every day and like most people we've watched our weight and body shapes change with time and age. Although we have pretty much always worked out, I would not historically consider us runners. We were never school athletes, nor would we consider ourselves athletes at really any point in time.. Although some would consider us that now. But amateur's for sure. We never ran in h.s., college, or for clubs. In fact I first ran more that 1.5 miles in July of 2021 at the age of 52.
