Let me tell you, it’s taken a lot to get here:
My brother’s life was taken by violence.
My sister lived and died with cystic fibrosis.
My dad got leukemia.
My first husband cheated.
I experienced multiple miscarriages.
I’m raising two neurodivergent teens.
We’ve been broke. Really broke.
My kids were bullied so badly I had to re-teach them safety.
One spiraled into self-harm; the other tried to hold us together. One child was sexually assaulted - more than once.
I had a TIA that stole my mind for almost two years.
My boss and a co-worker took their lives.
I’ve been the first responder.
I’ve been burned out, flatlined, bedridden. Chronic fatigue. PND.
I’ve lived with autoimmune issues, Hashimoto’s, diverticulitis, MTHFR mutations, sleep apnoea, hospital visits, a motorbike accident that stole six months of walking, and an emergency C-section after 57 hours of labour.
I spent years making myself small - people-pleasing, codependency, performing.
For years, survival swallowed my identity.
I don’t share this for sympathy, I share it for CONTEXT.
This is what resilience actually looks like. Not the shiny quote-card version. The human version.
