About Jack Hughesdon

I’m Jack, a Norfolk-based writer, entrepreneur and independent traveller. I’ve visited more than 40 countries and have always been especially interested in places that sit outside the usual tourist routes. My travels have taken me across Europe and beyond, including Moldova, Transnistria, Georgia, Albania and Turkey. I also spent time living in Antalya, where I experienced one of the most significant moments of my life. While at Mermerli Beach, I was the first person into the water to help an unconscious man who had fallen from the rocks. Working alongside the beach’s lifeguard, we managed to pull him from the sea and get him back to shore. I enjoy talking and writing about independent travel, unusual destinations and the reality of visiting places that are often misunderstood. I’m interested in the history and culture behind a destination rather than simply ticking off its main attractions. I also enjoy learning languages: I speak German at an intermediate level and have learned some basic Russian for travelling and connecting with people. Outside travel, I’m the founder of Mumbles Studio, a small business offering websites, marketing support and practical help with AI and automation. I’m particularly interested in how small businesses can use new technology without losing the human side of what they do. My own career hasn’t followed a completely straight path. I previously worked in marketing, events and hospitality, and I’m now retraining in accounting while building my business. I hold a first-class degree in Business Management and am a Member of the Chartered Management Institute and an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Marketing. I’m happy to speak honestly about changing direction in your thirties, starting a business without being a traditional developer, learning new skills, rebuilding after difficult periods and working towards a more stable life. I’m also passionate about mental health, community and encouraging men to speak more openly when they are struggling. I enjoy thoughtful but relaxed conversations and don’t pretend to have every answer. What I can offer is a broad range of experiences, plenty of stories and an honest perspective on travel, culture, business, technology, career change and starting again.
