About Alastair Henry

Alastair retired at 57 and went to live in the country. A year later, disillusioned with the passivity of retirement, he went in search of adventure and a deeper meaning to life and found it in Lutsel K’e: a small, fly-in community of 300 Chipewyan on the east arm of Great Slave Lake in Canada’s Northwest Territories. The experience changed the direction of his life which he wrote about in "Awakening in the Northwest Territories”

Two years later, Alastair went to Bangladesh as an International Development volunteer. He then met Candas, and together they went to Jamaica and Guyana as volunteers. In between assignments, when they were in their late sixties, they budget back packed Central America and Southeast Asia for four months each. They co-wrote "Go For It - Volunteering Adventures on Roads Less Travelled" and "Budget Backpacking for Boomers."

In 2020 Alastair had a double lung transplant and was thus able to finish writing and publish his historical fiction novel: The Soldier and The Orphan.
