Tim Gorski

Founder and Leader of an atheist church

: Dr. Gorski is a founder of and continues to lead the North Texas Church of Freethought since 1994. The church seeks nothing less than to reinvent religion as the sense that humans make of their subjective experience. This quite properly leaves to science the task of making sense of objective facts. A church then becomes a community of people who accept science together with the plain fact that there is no basis for belief in the supernatural, But this still leaves plenty of room for a cooperative quest for meaning. But instead of absurd teachings based on "holy books" of clamed revelations, such meaning is connected with our personal histories and ways of experiencing and appreciating each other and the world we share. The members of our church explore and work to understand the many aspects of this perspective including the distortions of traditional supernaturalist religions that harm us personally as well as our larger society.
