When I was nineteen I went to New Zealand for my endless summer and It was an amazing six months. I ran low on money and I began my first startup.

I started a closed-circuit radio station in a small business district outside of Auckland in an area called Mt. Albert.

The sun would not set until almost 10 pm in December and there were so many people walking the small business district I just knew I could convert them into sales. A radio station was born.

We broadcast to the people walking the streets and we read ads that the business owners gave us, lots of lost leaders, we charged $10 to read the ad throughout the evening.

We ran ads like "50% off vanilla ice cream for the next 15 minutes." Here's a typical scenario; A dad walks in with his family of four and everyone wants an ice cream but only one wanted vanilla. It worked that way with all the different businesses and they loved us.

The business was very successful. I would make about two to three hundred dollars a night working Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings.

I was living in a small home on a cliff, overlooking the southeastern Pacific Ocean in a town called Raglan. The monthly rent was hundred dollars a month, suffice it to say my radio station was delivering what I wanted from it, and more at the time.

The following are some of the other ventures I founded since:

1982 the Gondola Getaway Offering rides around the canals of Naples Island in Venetian-styled gondolas, Long Beach CA.

1989 Ragazzi a waterfront Italian restaurant just down the street from the gondola business so we could serve our gondola customers dinner before or after their cruise. We had been referring that business out for years so this just made sense.

1992 Bay Boat Rentals an electric boat rental business on Alamitos bay. 1993 another gondola business in Newport Beach CA.

1994 a friend of mine wanted help opening a restaurant on Post Dispatch lake in Saint Louis MO. It was awesome! We had a great little restaurant called The Boathouse with a boat rental business that just killed it.

2014 A small business App. based on the Closed Circuit Radio station idea I had in New Zealand.

I love the journey of a startup.
