My name is Adam Bell and I have been a resident of Patchogue since 2005. My parents raised four children in Mattituck on the north fork of Long Island, NY where my father worked as a minister and my mother was a professional and well published artist. I earned my finance degree from Loyola University in Chicago in 2001, the same city I met my wife Jessica. Together we have raised four children here in Patchogue. I work full time as a financial advisor with a Wall Street firm where I provide advice and support for retail investment clients.
Throughout the chapters of my life, however, there was art! Before I settled on finance I did attend art school briefly, and growing up before that, art was a part of every day for me. At home, there were piles of my mother’s art supplies to experiment with. Pencils and charcoals would call out my name and she had endless tubes of colors to choose from. Our house had jars of brushes at every sink, dried paint on the doorknobs and always the smell of turpentine hanging lightly in the air. I could steal away entire days filling canvas or pages of a drawing pad. At 17 years old I started selling my first tee shirts, and in those years I completed various commissioned pieces for local businesses, often with my mother's referral. I found my creative voice at a young age such that my peers and mentors all expected I would forge my career in art in some way. But art needed to wait. Married at 23, I soon had babies and a family and a home to care for. My career in finance has been rewarding but, still, art would come calling. Be it a logo for my church or a friend's tattoo design, a sketch or a portrait request, the world has not let me forget myself, and since those earliest days in my mother’s home studio, I am forever compelled to fill blank spaces.
I have made my career in finance, though my artist resume is beginning to take shape. I have tried to live with an artist’s vision, to see that life is malleable and moveable and with talent and effort we can create whatever environment for ourselves that we might imagine. And so now with my work having been shown and sold and admitted through juries and the like, I am elated to truly set out on my oldest journey, Adam Bell Artist.
