About Richard Capriola

I have been an addictions counselor for over two decades. I have been licensed in Illinois and Texas and worked for over a decade as an addictions counselor at Menninger Clinic in Houston Texas where I treated adults and adolescents diagnosed with mental health and substance abuse issues. During my tenure at Menninger I completed comprehensive addictions assessments, held individual counseling sessions with patients and led various addictions groups on both the adults and adolescent treatment units. Prior to moving to Houston I worked as a crisis counselor for a regional mental health center in central Illinois. I hold two masters degrees from the University of Illinois. Recently, I published a book on adolescent substance abuse. The title is The Addicted Child: A Parent's Guide to Adolescent Substance Abuse. The Addicted Child is a resource for anyone interested in adolescent substance abuse. Chapters include a review of substances being used by teens, warning signs everyone should know about, assessments important for a comprehensive diagnosis, and much more.
